Hovo

(h)ovo is a project that seeks to bring to the public space the stories of women and people who mens truate, exploring their experiences when menstruation permanently ceases.

Using theatre and artistic language to talk about the menopause, our desire is to open up a conversations that contemplates menstruating bodies in their entirety.
Leaving generic storied behind, we work with autobiographical stories drawn from personal his tory, recognising that the personal is political. We are interested in experiences that, when expressed in the collective space, resonate and are recognised.
We bring the small, the everyday, the subtle and poetic, the autobiographical to scenic creation.

We use artistic and performance language

to talk about this vital process.

Our values

Universality:

We intend to open a conversation that involves everyone in the community and go beyond the idea that this is an issue that pertains exclusively to the women who are experiencing it.

Intersectionality:

We recognise women as experts of their own lives, in their diversity. Without forgetting the influence of social inequality factors that affect bodies and im pact each one’s access to health.

Social art:

Expand the collective imagination of the body and women in the menopause, creating images and metaphors.

Participation:

Creation of artistic spaces that involve public participation.

Why talk about menopause?

I am Ángeles Gordillo. I have considered it important to talk about the menopause from a docu mentary and artistic perspective.
From a feminist and rights perspective. Listening to the stories. Letting the definitions emerge in our own words. Trying to facilitate the construction of support networks.
Providing information. And above all, bringing this life process to the public space. Because, today, the menopause should be everyone's business.
